summer’s, It Takes A Village Violence Prevention programs

gearing up across the City of Grand Rapids and is scheduled to kick off this Friday.. As you may know, It Takes A Village is designed to reduce violent crime among youth by providing safe, engaging, and positive alternative activities during summer weekend evenings. Our collective goal is to activate multiple venues throughout the city, offering opportunities for youth from all neighborhoods to connect, learn, and enjoy themselves in supportive environments.

Each programming site has its own registration process, but parents and caregivers are welcome to simply show up with their youth and check in with staff on the day of the weekend or evening events. Registration is not necessarily formal, and all are welcome to participate at any of our locations. The priority is ensuring that young people have access to safe, supportive spaces throughout the summer.

I am attaching our SAFE Summer Community Campaign electronic poster, which highlights safe and engaging youth activities happening in every ward across the city. Throughout Grand Rapids, many local organizations are offering summer programs and events designed to support young people and help prevent violence. We hope you will consider these opportunities for your family and share them widely with neighbors and community networks.
