The City of Grand Rapids is aware of the sound‑related concerns raised during the beginning of the Acrisure Amphitheater’s inaugural season, and we take those concerns seriously. We appreciate residents who have shared detailed information, which helps staff evaluate each report.
The amphitheater was approved after years of planning, public engagement, permitting, and review by an external consultant.
Grand Rapids is an urban environment with a wide range of nighttime sounds, and the amphitheater is a new source within that soundscape. Weather, atmospheric conditions, topography, and performance characteristics can all influence how sound travels. These variables will change for each performance.
The City has an established process for receiving and evaluating concerns. Complaints are logged through 311, and Planning staff review each report, and coordinate with the venue’s operator regarding concerns. The venue is exempt from the City’s noise ordinance until 11 p.m., which can be extended under certain circumstances.
The City remains in regular communication with the Convention Arena Authority and its operator. They are aware of the concerns which have been expressed by residents. We will be connecting with the CAA to evaluate potential operational adjustments as experience with the facility grows.
